Thursday Throwback to Creative Womxn in Hong Kong 1st Art Exhibition, 2022
Creative Womxn in Hong Kong: Art Exhibition at The Hive Studios
I would have never thought that one interview is going to launch a brand new space of opportunities and creative minds that can inspire. My first interview with artist - Kim Helguson inspired me to keep chasing down more artists, who had so much to say, share and educate others about their view and understanding of Hong Kong through art.
There are many changes happening every day and I was curious about the city, the people and the art that portrays their perception about it all. Being new to Hong Kong, arriving only last year in October, this was an incredible opportunity.
Hong Kong’s art scene has been isolated for a long time. It stayed captured in small bubbles - within the main Island, Kowloon and other Hong Kong’s hidden places, where the art happens. It is time to reduce the exclusivity and “premium” access to the artwork that has so much more to offer than being sold for high prices, looking great at your living room. All of this, without understanding the actual purpose and the message that the artist has behind their artwork. It was time to build bridges and connect everyone, bring them closer to art, hope, new ideas and inspiration.
By organizing an art exhibition that happened yesterday at The Hive Studios in Kennedy Town, we brought together 17 artists and over 80 pieces to be seen, captured and talked about. And it was fantastic. We had over 70 curious visitors who came to see and support all of the artists who bravely exhibited their work and became vulnerable by talking about it.
New connections and networking opportunities were made and I cannot express enough how grateful I am for this unique sync that happened. The turnout was incredible and I am so excited for the future of the artists, their new ideas and for Creative Womxn’s next events coming up in the future.
Big thank you to absolutely everyone, who made time in their midweek to come and who became part of this sensational evening that I will be reflecting on for a long time!
